On January 4th, 2025, the Larakaka Foundation held its launch event in the Organic Market informal settlement, located in Bramley, Alexander, South Africa. Staying true to its mission of poverty alleviation, health, and well-being, the Foundation organized a heartfelt outreach that brought joy, nourishment, and health awareness to the local community.
The day began with an air of anticipation as the Larakaka Foundation team, all donning their signature LKF T-shirts, set up tables and banners at the heart of the settlement. After everything was in place, the event opened with a prayer, setting a tone of gratitude and hope. A community leader welcomed everyone and introduced the Larakaka Foundation, briefly sharing the significance of the day before inviting the founder, Lara, to address the crowd.
Lara spoke passionately about the vision of the Larakaka Foundation and its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities. She emphasized the importance of unity and shared the team’s goals for the day, which included distributing essential food items and engaging in health-related conversations to promote well-being.
The distribution began with the children, who were visibly excited. Lara personally handed out snacks, sweets, and drinks to each child, creating moments of connection and joy. Following the children, the adults received food packs containing staples such as pap, rice, and other long-lasting items, ensuring families had access to nutritious meals. Demonstrating her background as a physical health nurse, Lara took the time to engage with women in the community, offering valuable health tips on managing diabetes, blood pressure, and blood sugar. She consulted one-on-one with individuals facing chronic health conditions, providing practical advice and remedies they could discuss with their doctors. Her dedication to improving lives was evident as she played with the children and shared knowledge that could empower the community to prioritize their health.
